SCAA Archival Community Needs Survey: Results

This survey was distributed in November 2009 to members of the South Carolina archival community. The results of the survey are presented in this final report and are summarized in this PowerPoint presentation. Funded by the South Carolina SHRAB, this survey was a joint venture of the SCAA, PALMCOP, CALM, CUSCH, SCLA-ASC, the Confederation of South Carolina Local Historical Societies, and others. The stated goal of the survey was “to document the needs of this professional group [SC archivists] in reference to continuing education, professional development, and professional development services and support.”

After the conclusion of the survey, a meeting was held at the State Archives with representative leadership from the sponsoring organizations. Participants identified areas of concern and began work on an action plan for the future. Among the chief areas discussed were:

  • Communication
  • Involvement/outreach
  • Duplication of efforts
  • Program quality
  • Support from employers
  • Collaboration
At the conclusion of the SCAA Spring Workshop, President Dawn Hammatt appointed Beth Bilderback chair of an ad hoc committee to explore strategic planning for the Association. Check back for regular updates on the progress of that committee. Any comments or feedback about the report or PowerPoint, or the survey in general, can be sent to Susan Hoffius.
